Class Spotlight - Part 8 - Middle & High School
Amid the spring weather, 7th grade enjoyed an outdoor school day at Rock Creek Park on April 16. For Life Science class, they collected data about microplastics in our local waterways; Amy C. adds, "I am sad to report that we did find some, but it was a small amount." After lunch, Kay walked down from campus for a watercolors lesson, followed by frisbee instruction from Alan.
Maureen's Advanced Art History class continued their tour of DC museums and galleries in late April with a trip to the Phillips Collection to draw and analyze Jacob Lawrence's "Migration Series" (and reenact Renoir's "Luncheon of the Boating Party"), preceded by an exploration of the National Museum of African Art.
On April 18, 10th graders in Ginger's Modern World History class ventured over to Hillwood Estate, Museum and Gardens for a Treasures of the Tsars tour. Ginger reports, "We found the two Fabergé eggs, gifts from Nicholas II to his mother, stunning. Likewise, we were awed by the chalice Catherine the Great dedicated to her paramour and General, Grigory Potemkin. Marjorie Merriweather Post, the daughter of the cereal magnate, began gathering precious items in the 1930s, aware any Tsar-related pieces faced destruction during the early decades of the USSR."
