Admissions

Welcome, New Families

We're so glad you've joined us!

September is nearly here, so be sure to visit the Back to School page, which includes:

  • Important dates for 2019-20
  • Summer assignment information
  • Directions for completing School Forms in SIS (Student Information System)

Planning Your Travel

  • Students can travel to Burke on foot, by bike, via Metrorail, Metrobus, by car, or by the Virginia Shuttle. Visit our Traveling to Burke page for more information on public transit options and the shuttle schedule.
  • During morning rush hour, single students (not in a carpool) may only be dropped off at particular points within a few blocks of school. Keep an eye on your email for more details.
  • During morning rush hour, cars with more than one student can use our drive-through aisle accessed from Connecticut Avenue.

Planning Your Day

• The school building opens at 7:00 AM.

• The middle school academic day goes from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with team practices or play rehearsals occurring afterward.

• The high school academic day goes from 8:15 AM to 3:20 PM, with team practices or play rehearsals occurring afterward.

• There is a morning break from 10:05 AM - 10:40 AM and lunch from 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM every day.

• There are proctored study halls for MS and HS students after school until 5:30 PM. Middle school students who are not going home, to a team practice, or a play rehearsal, must join a study hall, after which they may wait on the first floor until their ride arrives. High school students may remain in the Atrium or Commons until 5:30 PM.

• All students must leave the building by 6:30 PM unless they are participating in an evening event.

• On Late Start days (faculty/staff meetings), all classes begin at 10:00 AM and the building opens at 9:00 AM. You can find a list of those days on the Back to School page.
