We're so glad you've joined us!

Here is some information about life at Burke. We'll be adding more throughout the spring and summer!

Arrival & Departure

• Students can get to Burke on foot, by bike, via Metrorail, Metrobus,
   by car or by the Virginia Shuttle.

• During morning rush hour, single students may only be dropped off
   at particular points with a few blocks of school (details coming in August).

• During morning rush hour, cars with more than one student can use
  our drive-through aisle accessed from Connecticut Avenue.

Daily Schedule

• The building opens at 7:00 AM

• The middle school academic day goes from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM,
   team practices or play rehearsals occur afterward.

• The high school academic day goes from 8:15 AM to 3:20 PM,
   team practices or play rehearsals occur afterward.

• There is a morning break from 10:05 AM - 10:40 AM
   and lunch from 12:30 PM - 1:15 PM every day.

• There are proctored study halls for MS and HS students after school until 5:30 PM
Middle school students who are not going home, to a team practice, or a play rehearsal, must join a study hall, after which they may wait on the first floor until their ride arrives.
High school students may remain in the Atrium or Commons until 5:30 PM.

• All students must leave the building by 6:30 PM,
   unless they are part of an evening event.

• On Late Start days (faculty/staff meetings), all classes begin at 10:00 AM.
   The building opens at 9:00 AM.

Rising 9th Grade Placement Testing
May 10, 4:00 PM
Math and foreign language testing plus a social event including current rising 9th graders.

What To Expect At Burke
June 4, 6:30 PM
For parents: sandwiches and a brief discussion of what you'll need to know to get ready for next year. We'll give you a folder full of information about the school website, calendar, summer assignments, and more. Burke gear will be available.
