Whether you're at Burke for seven years (as a "lifer") or two years, you are an essential member of this community. While most new students come in 6th and 9th grade, we aim to expand the class size in 7th and 10th grade and often welcome several new students each year in 8th and 11th grade.
Congratulations to Niki P. '24, who led a DC-based fundraising team for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's 2023 Mid-Atlantic Student Visionaries of the Year campaign. With dynamic team members Alex B. '24, Mia D. '24, and Owen G. '24, she raised more than $80,000 and earned the Hero Award designation – which enables students to connect their names to an LLS research portfolio. In the Head of School's words, these team members "have been real leaders and advocates for this cause."
An opera singer and concert soloist, Faith S. '12 appeared on the cover of Washington Jewish Week (April 12, 2023), which highlighted her performance as Agnes Smith Lewis / Leah in Geniza: Hidden Fragments by composer Rabbi Arnold Saltzman.
Before Spring Break, Alice C. '21 (Carnegie Mellon '25) visited the Science Club to talk about majoring in Astrophysics and minoring in Math. A Burke "Lifer," Alice started in 6th grade after relocating from Alaska. She made room for six science classes in High School, dubbing AP Chemistry with Bob K. an "absolute favorite" (which enabled her to jump to Chemistry 2 in college).
