In the Winter trimester, 9th-11th graders in the Build Your Own Computer elective are discovering the ins-and-outs of computers from a physical perspective.
We started off by dissecting (... okay, breaking apart) different laptops to see just what is under the hood and how all the parts work together. We then moved on to the practice of soldering to see just how complicated, but fun, the making process can be.
The students, all novices at soldering, worked in groups of two and made working digital clocks. We have just moved on to a more difficult soldering project to make a LED light cube. Let the light shows begin!
