Affinity Group Spotlights: Part 3

Burke's 2022-23 affinity groups meet on four different rotations, enabling students to participate in up to four different groups at a time. In January, several groups looked beyond campus and raised funds for DC-based organizations serving the community.
Year of the Rabbit and Cat

On Tuesday, January 24, the Asian Student Association held a bake sale in honor of the Lunar New Year, with proceeds to benefit an AAPI-related non-profit organizations in the DC region (to be researched and chosen by the students).

Savory and Sweet

Last week, the Latine / Hispanic Student Union hosted a savory and sweet bake sale, with dishes including Brazilian pão de queijo and brigadeiros, Venezuelan tequeños, Puerto Rican caramel pineapple cupcakes, Salvadoran taquitos and Marañón juice, as well as Mexican hot chocolate, Inka Cola and Guaraná sodas. Proceeds will benefit CentroNia DC, a non-profit that provides a "continuum of high-quality early childhood education and care" in a dual-language environment.

Being Great

On the last Saturday in January, our student-led Black affinity groups (Black Girls Meet, Black Student Union, Young Black Men) gathered for their 2nd Annual Day of Service.
Partnering with BeGreatDC again this year, students and families assembled toiletry kits from thousands of donated items for our McPherson Square neighbors without stable housing.
