Out and About in DC: Part 2

Last school year, our students could once again travel and explore our region's resources – and those excursions have continued to proliferate in 2022-23:
12th Grade - Art History
Earlier this month, Maureen's Art History class headed to the Italian Renaissance Collection at the National Gallery, where they focused on linear perspective. Renaissance architect Filippo Brunelleschi revived linear perspective (a technique to create the illusion of depth) in the early 1400s, which proved a key advancement for the Florentine Renaissance. However, the actual technique dates back to the Romans.

12th Grade - Children's Literature
On a chilly mid-January day, 12th graders in Nathan's Children's Literature trimester elective traveled to the Broadcasters' Child Development Center in Tenleytown to read some favorite children's books, both in the classrooms and on the playground.

All Grades - Drama & Music
Middle and High School students in Drama classes and in the winter musical had the opportunity to see Wicked at the Kennedy Center. Before the show, several students participated in an Acting Through Song workshop with cast member Brion Marquis Watson. Stay tuned for ticketing information for 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, coming to the Burke theatre on March 3-11.

Faculty - Visual Arts
Works by Deborah, Héctor, and Kay appear in "Teacher Feature: An Exhibit of Works from Area Art Teachers" in the the Steuart Building at St. Alban's School. Be sure to visit the exhibit between now and Friday, March 3 (open 8 AM to 5 PM on weekdays). Kay also recommends a visit to the American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, where the Mixed Media 9/10 class just saw "ABUNDANCE: Too Much, Too Little, Just Right."
