Civil Rights on the Road

Our Class of 2030 has returned from the annual 8th grade capstone trip to Alabama, where they experience historical and cultural sites in Birmingham, Selma and Lowndes County, and Montgomery, deepening their knowledge of the civil rights movement in the American South and building connections to the present day.
On their first day, they met with Dr. Carolyn McKinstry at the 16th Street Baptist Church, where Dr. McKinstry was an eyewitness to the 1963 bombing. The second day, they walked from Brown Chapel A.M.E. Church over the Edmund Pettus Bridge, the site of Bloody Sunday in 1965. They also visited numerous museums and memorials, including the Freedom Rides Museum and the Rosa Parks Museum and Library. See an 8th grader this week? Ask them to tell you more.
