Considering Organic Chemistry
Science aptitude abounds in the senior class, which includes numerous students looking to continue beyond the AP Chemistry course. So this fall and winter trimester, six seniors are engaging in an Independent Study (IS) in Organic Chemistry with Bob K. Described as "the study of the structure, properties, composition, reactions, and preparation of carbon-containing compounds," Organic Chemistry is often one of the more challenging pre-med courses in college.

Arthropod Analysis

Since 2022, the Advanced Research in Molecular Biology course has partnered with The Wolbachia Project, hosted by the Bordenstein Lab at Penn State. Students collect and extract DNA from arthropods (insects, spiders, millipedes), then submit amplified DNA products for sequencing at Penn State. At the end of the trimester, they present their work to the community and upload findings to the lab's database.
