Burke Girls and Boys Cross Country capped off their outstanding season at the DC/MD Private School State Championships meet at the Agricultural Historical Farm Park in Derwood, MD on Saturday. Competing in the Small Schools division, Simon and Molly both finished 1st and both teams finished 2nd in the division. Seven of the twelve runners ran their best times of the year.
In the Middle School Race, Marcelo finished 6th overall in a blazing fast time of 12:04 for two miles.
Simon ran a school record time of 16:42 on the slick, rugged course. Lawrence (17:51) and Colin (18:10) also earned 1st Team All-State honors finishing 5th and 8th respectively. Lawrence broke 18 minutes for the time. Nick also ran the best race of his career, finishing 21st in 19:04. Justin soldiered through an infected leg so that the team had five runners and would count in the final results. Without Justin, we couldn't have finished second!
In the Girls race, Molly crushed the field, finishing a full minute ahead of the second place runner and ran a personal best of 21:06. Mathilde (22:25) and Emma (22:51) ran their best times of the year to earn 1st Team All-State honors finishing 3rd and 6th respectively. Maya, Lizzie and Natalie rounded out the girls team, running solid races.
