Let's Explore - Part 1

In progressive schools, we expect learning to be hands-on, active, and experiential. Thanks to our Metro-accessible location, DC's vast cultural and historical resources can support just such learning.
Week of September 16:

How Monuments Are Made

6th grade Core, with Sean and Emily, visited the Washington Monument, the World War II Memorial, and the Lincoln Memorial. Sean writes, "they are exploring the idea of why a nation makes monuments and how we decide who to honor in our lives. They will design and sketch their own monuments and then construct them using Minecraft."

Going to the Galleries

Maureen's Advanced Art History classes kicked off their tour of DC's museums and galleries at the Phillips Collection, where they had class in the Multiplicity: Blackness in Contemporary American Collage exhibit. Students discussed the various approaches the artists engaged in to address identity and social justice issues through collage.
