On Their Soapboxes

Following last spring's gradewide Soapbox Speech competition, Burke's winners from the Class of 2027, Oscar A. '27 and Sasha F. '27, headed to the DC Citywide Project Soapbox on January 9.
Kamilah reports, "Oscar delivered a touching speech on the impact that youth self-harm not only has on youth, but on schools, families, and the greater community. Sasha delivered an informative speech on how language barriers in food justice programs and applications for government assistance programs increase disparities in access to quality food. Both students' calls-to-action invoked empathy, legislative change, and made the people impacted by these systemic issues more visible. Job well done!"
