Class & Club Spotlight - Part 3

8th Grade on the Case
In Topics in US History with Ginger, 8th graders are sharing their "What are your rights?" projects, for which they investigated landmark cases that hinged on the Bill of Rights and detailed the rulings of the lower courts and Supreme Court, along with their own opinions. Cases included Atkins v. Virginia (2002) for the 8th Amendment and Snyder v. Phelps (2011) for the 1st Amendment.
Perusing the Phillips
With the government shutdown complicating their National Gallery plans, the Advanced Art History course pivoted and headed to the Phillips Collection earlier this week. Maureen reports that students analyzed the layout of the museum and focused on Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series and the Rothko room, featuring four paintings by abstract expressionist artist Mark Rothko.

History and Heritage
Yvette reports that Asian Students Association (ASA) has been honoring their history and heritage by learning about Diwali and Filipino American History Month. After looking at important dates in Asian American history, students created a timeline of important dates in their own families' histories. These conversation will continue throughout the year!
