Faculty & Staff Spotlights

Cheers to Kamilah S. (Director of Civic Engagement) and Addie H. (HS Science), who represented Burke at the 21st Annual Independent Schools Experiential Education Network (ISEEN) Winter Institute in Baltimore. Bringing together 100 educators from around the world, the winter institute centers on those working within their school's experiential programs, including "outdoor education, global education, community engagement, student leadership, and sustainability programs." They even met First Lady of Maryland, Dawn Moore!
On January 15, David (Director of Innovative Learning & Technology) and Jenn C. (Math / Academic Tech) co-hosted "Parenting and Healthy Tech Use," welcoming Burke middle and high school parents, plus parents from nearby schools. Following a presentation on the need to re-assess and restructure our tech use, parents continued the conversation in division-specific groups and built connections with one another. David also spoke about healthy tech at the Lafayette Parents Association meeting last week, part of an effort to spread the word at neighborhood elementary schools about the Wait Until 8th pledge – which asks parents to hold off on giving children phones until the end of 8th grade.
