On the Written Word | Middle School

In the Burke middle school, students are continually reading and writing — across many genres and through many mediums. Here are a couple examples:
7th Grade - Language Arts
This course explores utopias, dystopias, and fairy tales, both close to home and far away, tying into their World Geography & Cultures history class. Together, students read four novels, such as The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Shabanu by Suzanne Fisher Staples, and classic short fiction by Ray Bradbury and Shirley Jackson (among others). They also select books to read independently and study a variety of writing styles and techniques.
