The Magnitude of Middle School

At this crucial juncture, Burke sustains that innate curiosity and desire to learn, fostering those habits of mind and body that students will need throughout their educational lives. At Burke, the city is our classroom – and students learn through frequent field trips, outdoor experiences, and civic engagement.
  • Space to Explore: middle school is an optimal time to figure out what you enjoy, what sparks your curiosity. At Burke, numbers and time don't limit that important exploration. Students can do more of what they love and consider new interests and ideas.
  • Unique Bonds: at Burke, everyone gets to start fresh together in 6th grade. In last year’s senior class, nearly 80% of the 6th grade was still together at Graduation! 7th grade is also an “expansion year,” and students are eager for new energy and connections.
  • Strong Bridge to High School: at Burke, 8th grade can focus on leadership and capstone experiences, along with readiness for the academic challenge of our high school.
