Bengal Beat: Fall Sports Recap

Congratulations to the nine fall athletic teams on their successful seasons!

Highlights included all eligible soccer teams (Varsity and Middle School) continuing to the postseason and every cross country squad notching a top 10 individual finish in conference championships, along with a top 3 finish for the boys' team.
The Boys' HS team closed out a great season in 3rd place at PVAC Championships, clearly edging out rival Field for a podium place! Congratulations to all fifteen runners on a strong showing. Charles L. '25 ran 19:11 for 5K to finish in the top 10 individually; Adam O. '23, Ian S. '23, Jack J. '26, and Owen F. '24 rounded out the top 5 for Burke. In the Girls' varsity race, all three runners finished in the top 30 individually: Nora B. '26 (9th), Eliza G. '25 (15th), and Kavya T. '24 (30th).
In Girls' MS race, Neve J. '29 ran 16:04 for 2 miles to finish in 8th, followed by Camille W. '29 in 40th. The boys barely missed the podium on a tie-break, coming in 4th as a team. Lucas M. '27 ran 13:24 for 2-miles to take 8th place individually, with Jacob M. '27 and AJ A. '28 finishing in the top 30.

For the first time in recent memory, every eligible soccer team (both varsity and Middle School teams) made it to the postseason! Congratulations to all.
In an agonizing, amazing quarter-finals game, the Boys' team played Spencerville to a tie (0-0), and the game went to overtime and then penalty kicks, with Spencerville edging out the win by a single kick. The Girls' team also endured a tough loss to Washington International in the quarter-finals, following an impressive 7-5 season in the PVAC. Cheers to graduating seniors and team leaders: Luca C. '23, Kameron F. '23, Edomias G. '23, Reese G. '23, Reed R. J. '23, DJ S. '23, Grace W. '23, and Nebeyo Z. '23.
Reporting on the Developmental Soccer program, Coach Raul wrote, "every student athlete brought their own unique skills to the pitch. We laughed, we grew, but more importantly we learned from each other. All of the hard work and lessons learned were shown at the scrimmage at the end of the season."
In the Middle School, the Girls' team (23 players strong!) ended the season in impressive fashion, winning three games in a row heading into the PVAC Championships. While they unfortunately recorded a loss in the first round, spirits are high for next season.

Earlier this month, the Varsity team bid farewell to six great team members: Hazel B. '23, Gabi B. '23, Gigi G. '23, Angel J. '23, Nic S. '23, and Fin T. '23. While not always reflected on the scoreboard, this team had a strong program-building season. The team managers and captains became NFHS-certified (National Federation of State High School Associations), and participation in volleyball remains markedly high.
The JV team had a great run at the end of the season, winning their final two matches. Up against rival Field, Taylor S. '26, Lana P. '26, Stacia M. '28, and Ayla M. '26 secured the win in the third game with excellent serves. Burke then bested McLean in two games, with great offensive passing and defensive net plays by Marina C. '27 and service runs by Taylor, Lana, and Camilla T. '25.
