At Burke, 6th-8th graders have a 75-minute PE class every other day. With a gym renovation in progress, the PE department has taken a varied approach this fall – from maximizing outdoor time to partnering with Golds Gym on Connecticut Avenue to getting creative on a chilly day.
This past Tuesday, 6th graders gathered in the Commons and divided into teams. Each team needed to put together a different puzzle, but could only earn pieces by completing specific cardio and calisthenic exercises or hand-eye coordination drills. The challenge required them to move between mind and body workouts and to collaborate as a team.
