Grades 6-12 | Washington DC | Bold Possibilities | Balanced Approach Preliminary Application Deadline: January 6, 2026
Edmund Burke School welcomes applications for 6th-11th grade. The following grades are considered expansion / entry years, when we expect the size of the grade to increase:
While we always enjoy welcoming families to Burke, campus visits are not required in the admissions process. We offer several ways to experience Burke in person, and you should choose those that would be beneficial to your student and family. Some prefer the small group tour format; some relish the high energy at Open Houses; some enjoy connecting at fairs or other off-campus events.
To submit an application, please create an account in Ravenna, go to Edmund Burke School in the Directory, and click Apply. You can apply for Fall 2026 entry starting on September 8. The application has three parts:
Preliminary Application Form | due January 6
Supplemental Documents (test scores, recommendations, etc.) | due January 23
We encourage you to complete the first step as soon as possible, so that we can schedule an interview for the parents and student with a member of our Admissions team.
We will release admissions decisions on February 27, 2026, and you will then have two weeks to make a choice. During those weeks, we offer another round of events – so you'll be able to visit and explore after decisions are released too.
“Coming to Burke was daunting at first. I came from a bigger school and didn’t know what to expect. However, everyone was super welcoming and I was able to connect with people from the very first day.”

“Thankfully, we found Burke. It is the community we had hoped for and the transition could not have been smoother. Students were welcoming. Faculty and staff were caring and wanted to really know our daughter to set her up for success.”
“When our son transferred to Burke, we weren’t sure what to expect. He had been doing well at his large public high school, but we had watched his love of learning begin to dim. Burke changed everything."
Burke students pursue subjects at a high-level – ranging from multivariable calculus to Spanish literature to microbiology research – while also having space to explore new interests and enjoy their high school years. We hold students to high expectations, and we find the challenges that motivate them as individual learners.
At this crucial juncture, Burke sustains that innate curiosity and desire to learn, fostering those habits of mind and body that students will need throughout their educational lives. At Burke, the city is our classroom – and students learn through frequent field trips, outdoor experiences, and civic engagement.
