Lift Every Voice and Sing

On Thursday, February 16, students from Black Student Union, Black Girls Meet, and Young Black Men mounted the annual Black History Month assembly, with a specific focus on DC's Black culture and historical figures with roots in the District.
Led by Jaden H. '23, students presented photos and video focused on Carter G. Woodson (Jaden), Duke Ellington (Brooke G. '26), Chuck Brown and Go-Go Music (Dakari T. '23), HBCUs (Jaden and Sanja O. '23), and local restaurants (Sanja and Reese G. '23); Jewel F. '23 designed the slideshow.

To conclude, Sophia T. '24 performed a spoken word poem, centered on her grandparents coming to the United States from Haiti and France, followed by a performance of "Lift Every Voice and Sing" by High School, Middle School, and faculty members from BSU.
