Grandparents & Grand-friends Return

After one virtual and one hybrid Grandparents Day, we were thrilled to return to an in-person event this year and to welcome a record number of guests. For comparison, we had a near 100% increase in attendees over our last in-person event in 2019.

Following coffee in the Commons, grandparents first gathered in the theatre for a chorus performance, an excerpt from one of the fall plays, and a report on life in the Middle School from the 6th-8th grade SGA representatives. The program concluded with remarks from Burke's co-founder Dick Roth and Pat Roth P'88 (grandparents to current 7th and 9th graders), where he recalled the first school year in 1968-69 with 18 students in a house on Wyoming Avenue.

Grandparents joined in 2nd period classes, trying their hands at 7th grade Life Science, 10th grade Modern World Literature, and AP US History, and then headed to assembly in the gym. Advanced Band wowed the crowd with "Johnny B. Goode" and "At Last," with lead vocals by Georgie M. '23 and Ciara O. '23, and an open dance floor for all.
