Student Spotlights: Chess, Math & Music

Recognizing students for achievements in chess, math, and music this spring.
Ben T. '25

In early April, Ben won the Washington DC High School Chess Championship and will now represent DC at the Denker National Tournament of High School State Champions this summer in California. Immense congratulations to Ben, and be sure to cheer for him this coming July.

Jacob M. '27, Lina B. '26, and Nate S. '26

Jenn C. (Math) reports that eighteen 7th and 8th graders competed in this year's AMC-8 competition. Administered by the Mathematical Association of America, the AMC-8 is a challenging, 25-question, 40-minute exam. Burke's highest scorer, Jacob M. '27 (pictured), placed in the top quartile of the 66,000+ students who took the test nationwide. Tied in second place were Lina B. '26 and Nate S. '26.

Jacob Z. '22 and Rachel Z. '22

Following a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic, Rachel and Jacob returned to the stage with HaZamir: The International Jewish Teen Choir at Lincoln Center on March 27. After five years in the choir, they were thrilled to conclude their tenure onstage as seniors and featured singers.
