Bonding Trips Returned
Big news from recent weeks, of course, was the return of our annual community building trips. While overnights for all grades were not feasible yet, we still explored new places, had some adventures, and reveled in one another's company.
Middle School took a day trip to our usual haunts (Camp Wabanna) and then enjoyed a "fun Friday" at school, including an enormous Connect Four match-up on Howard Field and some macabre pumpkin decorating in the science lab.
High School divided and conquered, with the 12th grade tackling a scavenger hunt in Georgetown on Wednesday, before dedicating Thursday and Friday to college visits and applications. 11th grade traveled up to Philadelphia, starting with outdoor lunch from the Reading Terminal Market, then heading on advisor-led excursions to the Museum of Art, Franklin Institute, Magic Gardens, and Franklin Square. 9th grade spent Thursday on campus, participating in bonding activities and starting up their social change curriculum, before heading up to Camp Wabanna on Friday.
As our 10th grade had to begin their high school careers online last September, they were selected for our first overnight experience of 2021-22. They traveled to Calleva, a farm & outdoor education site in Maryland, where they enjoyed rafting, boating, and zip-lining before camping out for the night (either in an individual tent or an open-air structure).
