Happy Holidays from Burke

While our traditional holiday assembly and community holiday party took a new form, Burke's signature creativity and whimsy (plus some good-natured competition) were all on display.
On Monday morning, students and faculty all gathered via Zoom for a dance performance, with every 8th grader contributing from home, a Shakespeare performance (filmed outdoors at Burke) from the Fall Play's seniors, and an SGA-managed school-wide Kahoot for "grade points."

On Wednesday evening, families were invited to join the celebrations as well. The Drama Club's student-written and produced 'Twas the Night Before Winter Break was a highlight, along with remarks from Damian (Head of School), Lucy (School Counselor), Nigel (Academic Dean, bedecked in neon pink holiday lights), Jennifer (Director of Development), Marlon (Co-President, SGA), and Sydnye (President, Edmund Burke Parents Association). The evening concluded with two rounds of trivia, hosted by Christian Hunt '01 of the Capital City Showcase. The middle school parents once again were dominant, just edging out the faculty and staff team.

Thursday marked the first-ever Community Day of Giving, which saw the Burke community breeze beyond the initial 100 donor goal, ultimately drawing 215 contributions to the Annual Fund in a single day. In fall 2020, the Annual Fund has supported a substantial increase in financial aid for our families, advanced technology and faculty professional development to elevate our virtual and HyFlex learning, and physical preparations for the return to campus in November. Suffice it to say, these dollars are critical.

Here's to a happy, healthy, and peaceful holiday season – and we will see you in the New Year!
