Conversations: Racial Justice
During our midmorning community period in late October, Burke's Equity & Inclusion Task Force launched our school-wide Racial Justice Discussion Group (RJDG) program.
The program consists of 28 small discussion groups – facilitated by 31 faculty, staff, and administrators – and were formed based on student preference for participating in an affinity or a non-affinity group, as well as their grade level and self-identification in our 2020 Student Demographic Survey.
Through December, each RJDG will engage in exercises and activities intended to establish and practice communal norms, build intra-group trust, introduce basic concepts and vocabulary related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice, and develop dialogue and listening skills that will prove essential as we progress toward more complex and challenging topics in the months to come.
